All the Best

Changes - the dew

that wets the grass

of the old country,

at dawn.

The shade of Fitzwilliams

climbs forward,

obscuring

the garish colours

of the sleeping colleges
“…a day so dark, so warm…”

Among the ordered rows

adorned of benches,

silent is now the buzzing of the bikes:

July made them orphans.

“…a day so dark, so warm…”

Even friendships

discreet,

distant,
preserved in a rush-less
rewinding tape,
come to an end.
“…a day so dark, so warm…”
– “Wish you all the best” and go,
in a crowded bus –
dazzled
by a higher, quick,
resolute sun,
but orphan the same...
“…a day so dark, so warm…”
